OK, she dumped me. And though I tried to take it like a man and move on I’ve finally come to the conclusion I don’t want any other girl but her. So here’s the plan – I won her over once, I can do it again. All I have to do is take it step by step, but I’ve got to act quick before some creep moves in on my girl.

Here are my Steps – How to Win My Girlfriend Back:

Step One: It’s time for a new look. I’ve sort of let myself go a little. I’ve not been putting a lot of effort into how I look. Well, it’s time to show her what she’s missing. If you are like most people you probably have hundreds of things to do. Some are quick easy tasks, others are more difficult and may require money, focused concentration, or dealing with confrontation to complete.

Why just one thing? Because most days we are likely to focus on avoiding the more difficult tasks, electing to complete the easy tasks and taking that in as a successful day. At the end of the day we don’t feel satisfied because we know there are still the more difficult tasks still sitting out there. We avoided them, hoping that they would go away or magically become completed.

Here’s a plan to accomplish this:

1. Pick a task that has been hanging over your head for days, weeks, months, or even years. It might be to get your finances in order, completing performance reviews on employees that are way overdue, writing thank you notes from your wedding or graduation, cleaning out the garage or attic, putting old photos in a scrapbook, or helping a friend move a sleeper sofa from the basement to the garage.

2. Write down the state of done. In order words, how will you know when you have completed this item? This way you will know what you goal is and be less likely to quit before you finish.

3. Pick a day. You may decide to do this on a Saturday, take a day off of work to do, or do it during a work day if it includes work tasks.

4. Write down your plan for that day. This includes when you will get up, what each task is, when you start working on each task, how you will know when each task is finished, and what you will do if you get stuck and cannot finish a task. This way you will identify possible roadblocks in advance, and be less likely to have the entire day jeopardized before you need a part and the hardware store is closed.

5. When the day comes start it with a bang. Hit the ground running and keep the momentum going. If you end up finishing the task in two hours and you had planned for the entire day you now have almost a full today to enjoy. Plan breaks but also get back to the task at hand. No TV breaks as it is way too easy to go from a five minute quick peek at the shows on the tube to wasting most of the day procrastinating in front of the TV.

6. Be prepared for setbacks. You may not have a part you need, your Internet connection may go dead, or you not be in the mood. Don’t stop. Don’t give up. Persistence now will pay off later.

7. If the task grows in size narrow down your focus on what you will still accomplish today, and write down those items you will accomplish later that you cannot complete today. Do not let yourself create excuses.

8. When you feel like giving up take a short break or walk and come right back to it. A walk away from the task will give your mind a break, and you will be able to think of several different approaches if you are stuck.

9 Commitment and persistence. Persist until completed.

10. Cross if off your list. It might have taken you only part of the day or the entire day, but once you complete the task you will feel completely energized. Enjoy your success and the rest of the day.

And as a final step, repeat with the next task on your list.

When you look back at the day you spent completing this one task you will not remember the pains it took to accomplish the task, but only the fast that it is complete, no longer on your list, and now you can focus on other things. Like the next thing on your list.

There is even an important link between the magic square and the Sudoku. See for example the 5×5 panmagic square.

In a pure 5×5 (pan)magic square you fill in the digits 1 up to 25 or 0 up to 24 (= easier to calculate with). Each digit can be split up in a column coordinate and a row coordinate.

The magic sum is the (odd) size of the magic square multiplied by the middle digit: 5 x 12 = 60. This rope trick is easy to perform and looks great. All you need is a short piece of rope and a wire coat hanger. The rope should be about quarter of an inch thick and about three feet long. The hanger should just be a normal wire coat hanger.

Here’s How The Performance Looks - The audience sees you holding out a rope with three knots. A coat hanger is hanging from the middle knot. You say the magic word and the magic hanger jumps from the center knot to the left hand knot.

Right in front of everyone. That’s magic!

The audience gasps and then provides a round of applause.

And Now Here’s What Really Happens - Before you begin the performance, take the rope and tie four knots at roughly equal distance apart. The first three knots should be regular knots. We’ll call these knots A, B and C. The fourth should be a slip knot made to look like a normal knot. This is knot D. The hanger is hooked through knot C.

You start the trick by holding the rope between both hands. Knot A should be hidden by your left hand, and the other end of the rope should be in your right hand. So in effect the audience can see Knot B, Knot C (which supports the hanger) and Knot D (the slip knot which looks like a regular knot).

I’ll leave you to make up the story that surrounds the trick, but the main thing is to tell your audience that it’s a magic hanger that can jump from one knot to another at your command.

Once you’ve warmed your audience up and are ready to preform the trick, you have to do two things (apart from saying the magic word!);

Number One: Pull both ends of the rope tight between your hands. This will cause the slipknot to come undone and disappear. When you pull the rop, it’s a good idea to do it as quickly as possible (so that the audience can’t see what happens) and jerk the rope rather than pulling with constant pressure. This will help to dislodge the slipknot and make it impossible for anyone to see what really happens.

Number Two: As soon as you feel the slipknot come undone, let the rope slide through your left hand until Knot A becomes visible.

When the rope stops moving, what does the audience see?

If teachers don’t know at least ten methods of how to multiply, they shouldn’t be teaching multiplication to more than nine students. It’s easy and important to understand multiplication in depth if you are entrusted to teach it to young minds.

And that doesn’t mean “tricks.” Tricks trivialize anything they are attached to. How can I say this? Because I am a professional magician. We (at least the good ones) hate “tricks”. One thing all magicians know, is that as soon as you teach the trick, the magic is gone. It takes all the appreciation out of the effect.

A thoughtful magician would never show anyone how to do anything until they are ready to appreciate the thought and effort behind it.

One of the dangers of teaching tricks is that you, as the teacher, might actually think that you are seeing a light bulb go off when the child says, “Oh, I get it!” But that is the same false light bulb that we magicians see every time a person says “Oh, I see how he did it now!” when someone tells him how a particular magic effect is done. They only know the most superficial part of the method. They can’t actually do the effect to any worthwhile degree, they only “know how it’s done!”

It’s like the hip jazz musician who meets the suburban musicologist, and says about him, “Yeah man, that cat knows where it’s at, too bad he doesn’t know what it is.”

The same goes for teaching multiplication. You must teach the reasons that the method works. If the child isn’t ready to understand the reason, s/he is not ready to use the trick. In other words, it shouldn’t be a trivial trick – it should be a meaningful method.

How do you do this?

You have to get to know the child, and where s/he is with math so far. What so many pedagogues forget, is that education is about the student, not about the material (or the damned curriculum). If the child struggles with addition, take a step back and cover that until the child understands it in his bones before you try to teach him multiplication.

It doesn’t matter that you have to cover curriculum. It doesn’t matter that you are “on the multiplication unit” in school at this point. Clearly the pupil is not. You are a teacher, you know this. The administrators don’t, I know, I know. This is a problem. You can please them, or you can teach math. You can’t do both. If you can’t fight a bad system that you’re in, you are the system.

So you figure out if the child is ready to learn what you plan to teach them. If they struggle with “the tables,” and you are about to teach them the standard algorithm, you must get them up to speed until the real light bulbs goes off in their heads – until they understand that “times” (with whole numbers) means “groups of”. Have you explained that to them well enough? Do you understand it yourself?

It doesn’t matter which of the typical methods are taught in schools if they are going to be taught as “tricks” or taught as “show-and-tell” of “how to do it.” None of them will have any meaning.

And by meaning, I don’t mean, “grades went up.” You can get great grades with “tricks.” It makes teachers’ work easier. But it doesn’t teach anything valuable in the long run. If you teach for understanding, you get lasting value. If you teach with tricks and games, you are teaching that math is only good if it is not about the math. Great lesson, huh?

Education is not about inculcation of any algorithm. It is about students gaining insight, knowledge and lasting value. You can’t do that with “just shut up and learn this method,” just as you can’t do it with, “I’ll shut up and let you teach yourself.” Those are the ultimate false dichotomy in education of our time.

If you’re a teacher, you’re probably fed up with the bad mojo from the policy-makers. You need to get your own mojo working.

This simple but effective bar trick will amaze and entertain anyone who sees it. And unlike most magic, you can repeat this trick as many times as you want without anyone discovering how it works.

Right, you’ll need nine coins, and an accomplice with a bottle of beer and a beer mat, or some other subtle reference point. Don’t worry, all will be explained.

It doesn’t matter what type of coins you use. Just collect nine coins that are in your pocket or lying around on the bar.

And the coins don’t all have to be the same. In fact, it will add more mystery to the trick if you use a variety of different coins, as some of the more inquiring people in your crowd will try looking for patterns of coin use that just don’t exist.

Take the nine coins and lay them on the table in a square, three rows of three.

The trick begins with you claiming that you can guess which coin someone touched last.

You can wrap this basic premise up any way you want, by claiming that you can see, hear, smell or even feel the psychic every surrounding the coin.

All that matters is that you make it entertaining and mysterious.

Once you’ve decided who will be choosing a coin, leave the room, perhaps to go to the bar or the toilet, and give them a few moments to make their choice.

After you return, take your time and consider each of the coins in turn. After a few seconds, point to the coin that was selected and wait for the looks of disbelief on the faces of your audience.

How did you do it?

Easy!

This is where your accomplice earns his free drink. When you leave the room, make sure that your accomplice knows what to do and is sitting in a place where you can subtly look at them without arousing suspicion.

As you leave the room, your accomplice should take a drink from his bottle and keep a close eye on the coin selected. Then, it’s just a case of subtly placing their bottle on a certain part of the beer mat or other reference point that will indicate the chosen coin.

Right in the middle indicates the middle coin. Each of the corners represents a corner coin and the middle of each side of the mat correlates to the remaining four coins.

As soon as you return, you’ll be able to tell at a glance with coin was selected. From that point until you reveal the answer it’s just a case of putting on a good show. Do whatever you have to in order to increase the suspense, for example, pretending to sense the psychic waves emitted by each of the coins etc.

Once you reveal the right coin, the buzz from your audience is amazing. They’ll be convinced that you somehow say the person making their choice, or that you noticed that one of the coins was moved etc. Just don’t be surprised if you have to do the trick again…and again, as they try to work out how you managed to outwit them. But they won’t.

With careful timing, subtle actions and a lot of theatrics, you can do this trick as many times as you want and nobody will ever suspect a thing.

And if you want to further reduce your chances of being found out, make sure that your accomplice subtly picks up or moves his bottle as soon as he knows you’ve seen it. Make sure that they act naturally and pretend to be as amazed as the rest of the crowd when you choose the right coin. But whatever happens, make sure that they don’t overdo it, as an over-reaction is just as much of a giveaway as an under-reaction.
